In winter, raising the statue off the ground is essential to prevent cracking, pooling, and the accumulation of frozen water. Elevating the statue by a few inches allows air to circulate around the cast stone, which helps prevent freeze-thaw damage. If possible, store the statue indoors. Cover the top with burlap and wrap it in dark plastic if you leave it outside. Be sure to check regularly to ensure that no water accumulates. Before the first freeze, remember to raise, dry, and cover the statue.
